Scholarship for high school students attending college in the field of education
The Northeastern Zone of the Retired Educators of New York will be awarding the Dr. Karl R. and Ruth Kramer Scholarship to a high school senior pursuing the field of education. To be eligible, the student must be a resident of Clinton or Essex Counties, have at least a B average and be accepted at a post-secondary institution. The $500 scholarship is awarded at the end of the student’s first semester in college. Applications are available at all the area high school counseling offices. The deadline for the application to be received is May 1, 2025.
Retired Educators of New York (RENY) is offering a $2000 grant to active educators in Clinton and Essex counties to assist them in their classroom endeavors. To be eligible for the grant, an educator must be a full time teacher, nurse, counselor, or administrator in a public school district that is included in the RENY Northeastern Zone (NEZ). RENY (the statewide organization) is providing the Hudson-Kramer Memorial Grant, which has been increased to $2000, to an educator in the Northeastern Zone. The grant honors Ross Hudson and Florence Coulter Kramer, dedicated and devoted members of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, now known as RENY. The Northeastern Zone, along with four other RENY Zones, will receive this grant every other year.

2024 Educator Award

The Retired Educators of New York (RENY) Educator Awards Committee has announced the winner of the 2024 NEZ (Northeastern Zone) Kramer Memorial Educator Award. Jennifer Haley, of Champlain Valley Educational Services: Rise Center for Success, will receive a $500 grant to support a classroom project: : “Growing Minds: A Hydroponic Journey for Students” during the 2024-2025 school year. She will purchase a hydroponic system which will provide hands-on learning experiences for her students, and enhance skills such as scientific inquiry, problem-solving, collaboration, responsibility, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
